Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated from China, this medical practice has been applied for thousands of years and is one of the fastest growing alternative therapies. It is often used to complement and enhance the benefits of traditional medicine. Acupuncture is a collection of procedures involving the insertion of very fine sterilised needles on specific points and various depths of the body surface. Stimulating these specific acupuncture points refines and corrects the imbalances of the body and as a result induces therapeutic effects.

What is Chinese Herb Treatment?

Herbal remedies are safe and effective alternative for treatments from conditions ranging from indigestion to diabetes. Also known as botanical medicine, herbalism has a long tradition of use outside of conventional medicine. However it is becoming more revered as improvements in analysis and quality control along with advances in clinical research show the value of herbal medicine in the treating and preventing of disease.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of fire heat treatment with the intention of stimulating circulation through specific acupuncture points and inducing a smoother flow of blood.

Cupping

Cupping is a form of alternative medicine in which local suction is focused on a particular part of the body surface; this partial vacuum mobilises blood flow in order to promote healing. It is one of the oldest therapeutic practices in the world. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. This helps to move stagnant blood and energy, in order to promote healing. It can be thought of as a “reverse massage”. Like traditional forms of massage, circulation to tight areas is increased helping them to relax. For those who find hard pressure massage uncomfortable because their muscles are too tight, cupping provides an excellent alternative. It is also fantastic for detoxification, helping to break down stubborn fatty deposits and cellulite, and restoring vitality

Laser Acupuncture
  • An acupuncture laser device is the same as normal acupuncture except that laser light is used instead of traditional penetrating needles, great for people that don't like needles!
  • Treating with laser acupuncture is the stimulation of acupuncture pathways which transmit electrical impulses through the nervous system.
  • In acupuncture those points which cause a patient to withdraw or respond with an exclamation of pain.
  •  General laser therapy is the application of infrared light and/or visible red light to injured or damaged local tissue directly on the affected area, without the stimulation of the pathways.
Massage
  • When muscles and tendons become fatigued, knotted, damaged, tight or immobile, Remedial Massage offers a healing treatment that utilises any one of several techniques to locate problems and support and speed up the body’s own healing process. It can be strong deep tissue massage or a softer relaxation massage depending on your situation or preference.
  • The massage is generally applied directly to the skin using lubricating oils. The massage helps to increase blood flow, shift toxins and relieve tension and stress.
  • Our massage therapists at Darlinghurst are very experienced and work in conjunction with the other practitioners at the clinic to give you the best care needed.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. It utilises this inherent healing power of the body to maintain body structure and function without the use of drugs or surgery.
The important functions of the body are controlled by the nervous system, comprising the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Chiropractic focuses on the nervous system and its relationship to your entire body, including your muscles, joints, bones and organs.
Throughout your spine, areas of spinal stress (subluxations) can occur, causing impairment to the nervous system. This impairment can cause numbness, weakness or under-performance of organs and tissues.
Chiropractors are specially trained to locate areas where spinal stress (subluxations) occurs, through a thorough examination of the spine. Soft tissue massage and specific spinal adjustments help to reduce the irritation in the nervous system. This allows your body to heal and regulate itself naturally.
A registered chiropractor in Australia must have studied an accredited 5-year University education program including a Masters degree. Chiropractic spinal adjustments are internationally recognised as safe and effective for all, young and old.
Chiropractic is simple. It’s natural. It recognises your body’s ability to heal itself. And it helps millions of people from pain and gives them better health every year.

Initial Intensive Care

Pain and other symptoms bring most patients to the chiropractor and the first thing they want is to feel better and to get out of pain. During this phase, your visits are more frequent and aimed at stabilizing and improving the movement of your spine, as we eliminate your symptoms.

Rehabilitation Phase

After your symptoms have improved we concentrate on restoring the joints, muscles and ligaments to the best possible state so that you gain maximum function and health. Rehabilitative care aims to achieve complete healing, not just pain relief. Your visits will be less frequent and we will introduce exercise and other self care to aid your recovery. Stopping your chiropractic care now usually leads to your symptoms returning.

Maintenance Care

Maintenance care is like having a tune-up. Care in this stage is aimed at preventing recurrence of the same problem, or the arousal of new symptoms. When you have obtained the best correction possible, these regular check ups will keep you healthy in the future. The frequency in this stage is very low (approximately once a month).
